World’s Oldest Wine Region: Wines of Georgia Tasting
When: Friday, November 28, 2014 7-9pm
Where: Vancouver, BC
Present day Georgia (the country, not the American state), under the broad shoulders of the majestic Caucasus Mountains south of Russia, might just be the world’s oldest wine region. Archeologists have found evidence of the world’s first cultivated grapevines there dated to be as old as 8,000 years.
Join wine journalist and sommelier Gloria Chang to sip through a flight of wines handpicked by her after a recent trip to the historical and beautiful wine region. We’ll start with a glass of bubbly from Georgia’s oldest sparkling wine producer, then move onto several distinctly Georgian white and orange-ish wines with their characteristic tannins from extended skin contact with the grapes, and finish with a fine example of their most important (and popular) red grape Saperavi. This is the second of three Wine Adventures Tastings for Fall/Winter 2014 we’ll be hosting.
You too, may fall in love with these very distinctive wines, which will be paired with some light finger food. Certainly, you will not taste wine like this anywhere else!
*This is a small group tasting around a beautiful table in the heart of East Vancouver off Commercial Drive. Expect a group of gregarious wine lovers and curious coming together for a social evening that engages, entertains, and enlightens.
