This is what we might call a Vancouver classic. Located along the sea wall with the accompanying gorgeous view, The Wine Bar (and restaurant Provence Marinaside next door) consistently delivers on delicious eats and drinks with exceptional service. It’s where I’ve taken couples who’ve booked a private wine tasting with me, where I like to relax over food and drink, and where you’ll find an excellent selection of wines by the glass from around the world. You can even order by the ounce, which is why it’s where I take European couples honeymooning in Vancouver, for example, and seeking an introduction to British Columbia wine. Did I mention the stellar selection of the local wines here, also available by the glass?

Recently, we stopped by to taste a few champagnes as The Wine Bar has now added a full 24 sparkling wines by the glass, including champagne, BC and Nova Scotia bubbly, cava, cremant, and prosecco. As for the famous — and $110 a glass — Louis Roederer Cristal champagne? It was the lightest, fluffiest bubbles and wine we’ve tasted. But if you’re hankering for a taste, it would perhaps be better for your wallet to just buy a bottle at the liquor store. Here, at The Wine Bar, our recommendation for champagne would be one of our go-to non-vintage: Lanson Black Label. Forget the glass, and order the bottle. Life is short. Enjoy the wine.
